Introduction to Equipment and Supplies Needed for Indoor Growing

Cartier April 2, 2023

Indoor cannabis growing requires equipment and supplies to create a suitable environment for the plants to thrive. Here are some of the essential items you’ll need to get started:

Grow Tent or Grow Room

A designated space to grow your cannabis plants indoors.

Growing somewhere like a bedroom without a tent isn’t bad, but you have less control of the growth, and lighting can be seen outside. So growing up in a tent gives you more control over the environment, lighting, and smell.

Grow lights

Lighting is essential for cannabis growth; you must invest in high-quality grow lights. LED lights are a popular choice because they are energy-efficient and emit less heat than traditional HID lights.

Ventilation System

AC Infinity Kit

You’ll need a ventilation system with exhaust fans, air filters, and ducting to maintain airflow and control temperature and humidity levels.

Growing Medium

Rockwool, Soil, Coco coir Hydroton and so many other medias to grow in.

You can choose from the soil, hydroponic systems, or a combination. Soil-based mediums are more forgiving and easier to manage for beginner growers. I recommend beginners start with soil and work up to soilless media or hydroponics. This way, you can understand more about pH and EC levels before testing your hand with other methods.

SimPro Plant Nutrient

Cannabis plants require specific nutrients at different stages of growth, and you’ll need to invest in a quality nutrient regimen. As a beginner, we like the SimPro Nutrient formula’s ease and effectiveness. One scoop to a gallon gives you all you need for the phase of growth you’re in. If you’re in the Vegetation stage, there’s an entire formula for that, and the same goes for other phases like bloom and transition. I’ll cover more on the different stages of growth later in the guide.

pH and TDS meters

Are essential for monitoring your growing medium’s pH and nutrient levels to ensure optimal growth. As a beginner, you want to make sure you use some form of metering, although using soil, you won’t need one out the gate. Once you get into soulless, you need to monitor your levels more, which must be accurate to get a great result.

Bluelab Combo

The Bluelab Combo is a great dual meter that helps you to measure pH and EC or PPM. The price tag is worth every penny for the best flowering grow room.

Watering Systems

Watering systems are more advanced, but if you’re the type on the go and unable to spend time watching, then using an automated watering system is a great way to make it happen. Watering by hand is preferred to cut costs and get a feel for how and what happens as you water. When I say water by hand, you scoop it into a cup and pour it on top of your media.

The next step is using a watering wand with a water pump to water your plants. Each method will be covered in the course, but start with watering by hand so you understand the process from the ground up.

Trimming Scissors

To prune and maintain your cannabis plants, you’ll need a good pair of trimming scissors. Sometimes you will want to cut back some of the growth to allow sun into the lower buds. Keeping a good pair of shears near is a great way.

Pots or Containers

You’ll need containers or pots to house your plants. There are a few types of pots you will see on the market.

fabric pot

Fabric pots are ideal for growing plants in tight spaces. They are porous, so watering is crucial as they dry out faster than regular planters. The pots can also raise soil pH levels, leading to nutrient deficiencies, so regular monitoring and adjustment are essential. Nevertheless, the porous nature of fabric pots improves root growth and prevents tangling, leading to better nutrient absorption and healthier plants.

Plastic Pots

Plastic pots are commonly used in gardening. They are lightweight, durable, and affordable. Plastic pots come in various sizes and shapes, making them suitable for different types of plants. These pots also retain moisture, which is essential for plant growth. However, plastic pots can heat up quickly, causing damage to plant roots. Placing the pot in a shaded area or using a pot with a light-colored exterior is recommended to prevent this. Additionally, plastic pots can last several years but should be replaced when cracked or discolored. Overall, plastic pots are a practical choice for gardening but require proper care to ensure plant health.

Carbon Filter

AC Infinity

Carbon filters are an effective solution for reducing unpleasant smells in densely populated residential areas. They are made from activated carbon, which absorbs and traps odors, fumes, and pollutants. Carbon filters are helpful in areas where pets, cooking, garbage disposal, or smoking are common. They also help improve indoor air quality by filtering harmful chemicals and particles. When choosing a carbon filter, it’s important to consider its capacity, size, and maintenance requirements. They need to be replaced every 6 to 12 months. Carbon filters are easy to install and maintain, making them a must-have for anyone who wants to live in a clean, odor-free environment.

Trellis Netting

This netting supports your plants’ growth and creates a more efficient use of space.

These are the primary equipment and supplies you’ll need to get started with indoor cannabis growing. Remember to research and invest in high-quality equipment to ensure successful growth.
