Vegetative Growth Requirements

Cartier April 3, 2023

The vegetative growth stage is a critical period in the life cycle of cannabis plants. During this stage, plants grow rapidly and develop strong stems, leaves, and branches in preparation for the flowering stage. To ensure healthy vegetative growth, it’s important to provide the following requirements:

  1. Light: Cannabis plants require a lot of light during the vegetative stage, typically 18-24 hours of light per day. The light source should be high-intensity and provide a spectrum of light rich in blue and white wavelengths.
  1. Temperature: Cannabis plants thrive in temperatures between 20-30°C (68-86°F) during the vegetative stage. Temperatures outside this range can slow growth or even damage the plant.
  1. Humidity: Cannabis plants prefer a higher humidity level, around 50-70%,, during the vegetative stage. High humidity levels can help prevent the plant from losing too much moisture through its leaves.
  1. Water: Cannabis plants require regular watering during the vegetative stage to ensure the growing medium remains moist. It’s important not to overwater the plant, as this can lead to root rot.
  1. Nutrients: Cannabis plants require nutrients, such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, during the vegetative stage. It’s important to provide balanced nutrients to ensure healthy growth.
  1. pH: Cannabis plants prefer a slightly acidic pH between 6.0-7.0. pH levels outside of this range can affect nutrient uptake and plant growth.
  1. Ventilation: Cannabis plants require good air circulation during the vegetative stage to prevent mold and mildew growth. Adequate ventilation can also help prevent heat stress and ensure optimal plant growth.

When growing cannabis indoors, providing the right conditions for vegetative growth is important. Regular monitoring of light, temperature, humidity, water, nutrients, pH, and ventilation can ensure your plants are healthy and strong during the vegetative stage.
