Lesson 3: Basic Equipment Overview: What You’ll Need

Equip yourself with the essential tools and equipment needed for effective watering and care of indoor cannabis plants.

Equipment List:

  1. Water Quality Tester:
    • EC Meter: Essential for measuring electrical conductivity in water to ensure optimal nutrient absorption.
    • pH Meter: A digital pH tester to accurately adjust the pH level of your water.
  2. Water Filtration System:
    • Reverse Osmosis (RO) System: Removes impurities and provides clean water, which is essential for sensitive cannabis plants.
  3. Watering Tools:
    • Water Wands: For gentle and even watering, ensure all parts of the soil are adequately moistened.
    • Spray Bottles: These are useful for misting and providing moisture without overwatering.
  4. Pumps and Aeration Equipment:
    • Submersible Pump: For circulating water in larger water reservoirs.
    • Air Pump with Air Stone: Increases oxygen in the water, promoting healthy root growth.
  5. Nutrient and pH Management Tools:
    • Measuring Cups and Syringes: For accurate measurement of nutrients and pH adjusters.
    • Mixing Sticks or a Small Electric Mixer: Ensure nutrients are thoroughly mixed in the water.
  6. Run-Off Collection Tools:
    • Trays and Buckets: To collect runoff water for testing, vital for monitoring nutrient levels and overall plant health.
  7. Temperature Control:
    • Water Thermometer: To check the water temperature, ensuring it’s within the optimal range for cannabis growth (typically 65-75°F or 18-24°C).

Essential Setup Tips:

  • Ensure your EC and pH meters are calibrated according to the manufacturer’s instructions for accurate readings.
  • Regularly clean and maintain your RO system and pumps to prevent clogging and ensure efficient operation.
  • Arrange your watering tools and equipment for easy access and efficient workflow.

Next Steps:

  • Familiarize yourself with each tool’s usage by reading the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Test your water using the EC and pH meters to get a baseline reading of your local water supply.
